Softball.

Softball is the sport of choice for many members of the Greenlawn Fire Department. For seven years running our department has fielded two teams in the Huntington Township Fireman’s Softball League.

The 2008 Huntington Township Championship Team – Greenlawn “A-Team” from left to right Brian Ross, Brett “Bags” Gibson, John “Johnny Mo” Modzelewski, Joe Pace, Dan “Rainman” Rathgaber, John “Bradley” Henrikson, Ron “Powder” Pelkofski, Billy Steinert, Eddie Nill, Matt “Money” Nicholas, Jimmy “The Chin” Keane, Mike Zeis ~ note that this photo was taken at the gravesite of John Shaw, Greenlawn FD Badge #436, who passed away suddenly in 2005. John, who was also a member of FDNY Engine 235 in Brooklyn, was the Department Vice President and was an active member of both the “A-Team” and founder/first manager of the “B-Team.” Every year GFD ball players gather to pay tribute and remember their friend. The uniforms of both teams bear John’s number 3 which is retired.
