“We earn a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill

The spirit of volunteerism has driven the men and women of the Greenlawn Volunteer Fire Department for well over a century. The desire to serve and to put the needs of others first are values that our volunteers cherish and pass on from generation to generation.

In keeping with this spirit, the Greenlawn Volunteer Fire Department sponsors an Annual High School Senior Scholarship Program to acknowledge outstanding young people in our community who have made a commitment to give back and help others through their volunteer efforts.

For the past 13 years, the Greenlawn FD has awarded three $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors from our area. Each spring, high school seniors who reside in the Greenlawn Fire District, which encompasses parts of the Harborfields, Elwood, Huntington and South Huntington school districts, are eligible to apply for the scholarships. Applicants are judged on the basis of their voluntary service to their school and community throughout their high school career.

We in the GFD are delighted by the response that our scholarship program has had in the past and we look forward to continuing to recognized the volunteer efforts of our young people by helping them to continue their education through this program for many years to come.

Public school seniors who reside in the Greenlawn Fire District may contact their school guidance counselor for an application. Seniors who attend private schools may contact the Greenlawn Fire Department by mail at the address below.
