This year’s 2023 Greenlawn Fireman’s Fair Grand Marshal for the parade is Coach George Kouroutis, a very special person within our community.
On the morning of August 1st 2023, he was directly responsible for saving the life of one of his soccer players during a morning camp session. After a young player collapsed in an extremely serious cardiac condition, Coach Kouroutis immediately retrieved an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and used it, restoring the young man’s heart rhythm and essentially saving his life.
There’s no doubt his training and reaction is the reason the young Harborfields soccer player is alive today. We commend Coach George Kouroutis and are extremely proud to welcome him and his family as the 2023 Greenlawn Parades Grand Marshal.

The Greenlawn Fire Department’s Fireman’s Fair, held every Labor Day Weekend, is New York State’s longest-running Fireman’s Fair. Chairman notes, “Our fair has become an end-of-summer tradition for generations of local families.” The fair’s reputation is upheld year after year by the superior selection of goods and prizes to be won in a multitude of games of chance as well as its hometown family atmosphere. “Our prizes are of the highest quality, from sides of beef to housewares and brand-name electronics, it’s the prizes that keep ’em coming back,” Lee explained. The grand prize is raffled off on the last night of the fair, traditionally Labor Day. Each year, the fair is kicked off by the Fireman’s Parade Night on the Thursday before Labor Day when firefighters and ambulance personnel from surrounding departments make their way down Broadway to congregate on the fairgrounds behind GFD headquarters, enjoy an ice-cold drink and a bite to eat. Summer culinary favorites are always a hit…spicy fresh hot dogs, buttery corn on the cob, fresh-cut potato fries, snow cones, cotton candy, ice cream, and more… While the children are getting sticky from the cotton candy, trying one of many skill games, or riding down the giant slide, parents can hit it big at the Big Six or Nevada booth. There’s always plenty of family fun every year at our fair…
